The Academic Voice
Education that Works
Thanks for the Postings
Colleagues,
For those who have come back to this blog and made comments, I thank you. I have heard some positive comments about registration, but I am still hearing a few horror stories. We will continue to improve the process and the horror stories will go away.
The Provost is Alive!
My Dear Faculty Members,
I trust you all had a good holiday break. I did and so I am back, alive and well (perhaps a bit battered and bruised, but alive!). I have survived a semester and I am ready for another one. Perhaps you may have noticed that I have been absent from this blog for a couple of months? Well, not to worry, I shall be absent no longer!
Since this is the beginning of a new semester and yesterday was the first day of classes, registration continues. Please tell me about your registration experiences. We have revamped and hopefully improved the process, so I would like to hear your thoughts. What do you like/dislike about the new registration process? Let me know your thoughts so we can make further improvements.
Thanks.

This Week’s Topic — The Tenure Process
Hello My Fellow Academics,
Once again, thanks for weighing in with such alacrity. here’s what
we have so far:
Hiring and credentialing and policies and procedures. We have
taken all your comments into consideration and will present our findings and
recommendations to the Faculty Council soon. Thanks so much to all those who
took the Human Diversity Survey; your responses will help us make informed
decisions about this “festering” topic.
This week I am torn. Why, you might ask? Well, I am not sure which
topic to post for the week. I am thinking: “Purchasing and
Procurement” or the “Faculty Tenure Process”. I believe both are
“festering” (I guess you know by now that this is my word of the
year) issues; however, it appears much progress has been made on the first. I
will ensure that you learn above the improvements soon. So, ladies and gents,
the topic of the week is: the Promotion and Tenure Process! Here are a few
questions to ponder:
1. Is the tenure process working the way it should?
2. Are the timelines appropriate?
3. Should we have a post-tenure review process?
Please let your voice be heard, my dear academics.

Kojo’s Comments — Policies & Procedures
Thanks for all your comments. I have noted the comments about the Human Diversity and foreign language requirements. I will discuss your comments with my AVCs. These are some of the concerns that came up as we discussed these topics. We have intentionally delayed the printing of the catalog just so we could allow you, the faculty, to provide input. So while there is no real rush, we still need to move fairly quickly.
Please do continue to post because your opinions are important to me. I will leave this topic up for the rest of this week before we move on to the next.

Hiring and Credentialing –Kojo
As a response to some concerns about the hiring and credentialing changes, those changes will be presented to Faculty Council and all of you within the next couple of weeks.
New Topic for Next Week — Policies and Procedures and Human Diversity Survey
Colleagues,
Please take time to post and respond to the survey over the course of the next week. The hiring and credentialing topic is now history and your comments will all be considered as we enact new policies in those areas.
Thanks.
Kojo
New Topic — Academic Policies and Regulations
Thanks so much for your discussions of the last blog topic. This week’s topic is the Academic Policies and Regulations which I hope to append here shortly. Please pay particular attention to the foreign language and human diversity requirements.
Proposed Academic Policy Manual Revisions_PENDING BOARD APPROVAL Fall 2011
Please take the Fall 2011 CCC Faculty Human Diversity Survey.
Thanks.

Please Weigh in — Kojo

Thanks! Tomorrow is last Day for this topic
Hello Colleagues,
I have been reading all your posts with great interest. and have taken them all to heart. You have all made cogent points and they have been considered in the process of making some NECESSARY changes in the hiring and credentialing process.
The current hiring process has been reviewed and changed accordingly. The new process will be presented to Faculty Council for further review and finalization.
